All of my vaios have had this click. My new TX1XP also does it. So (hopefully) its nothing to be concerned about. Just to be safe, make sure you do regular backups.

I bought the TX1XP a month ago and I started noticing exactly that clicking sound from the HD. I am not sure if it always existed but certainly noticed only a week ago. Called Sony and the chap on the phone tells me to do a full recovery of the OS first in order to eliminate any software problems, and then if problem still persisted then they would come and collect it to check. He also tells me that noise shouldn't be there. It certainly is a weird noise, like something clanking inside every few mins. Anyone else has any idea about this?
I am wondering if its going to help doing a full recovery as I am going to lose all the data and have to reinstall all the software again. Or should I just send it to them to have it checked.
Can anyone help on this issue? If its clearly not going to solve then I would rather not do the full recovery.
Thanks

thanks Rich. I think I will stick to the notebook rather than parting with it for days to send it to Sony probably just to be told what u just said, besides I dont like the idea of letting my Vaio off my sight for so many days. Noise is not too bad, very subtle, and you explained it quite well about the fact that its the heads parking. Will keep an eye just in case if it gets louder but so far looks ok.
Thanks again

A slight clicking noise from a notebook, as opposed to a desktop, hard drive is quite normal – it is the sound of the heads parking.

....I am wondering if its going to help doing a full recovery

You might just as well run around the garden naked during a full moon in the hope that this will cure clicking on any hard drive:smileywink:
