FE21s: WinDVD crashes often and can not be aborted by task manager

I have a Vaio FE21S notebook and I use the preinstalled WinDVD player. This software crashes quite often, especially when I want to close the programm without having pressed the stop button before(but sometimes even then).
This alone is not that much of a problem, but when invoking the task manager with ctrl-alt-del I can not shut down the task in the application's tab. Even pressing the power button does not help. The computer hangs up in the windows shut down sequence for all eternity. The only thing I can do is cutting the power connection, which is not good for the hard disk if it is done in the wrong moment.
Does anybody with the same computer have the same experience?

I have a Vaio Desktop RC-204 Model. The preinstalled win dvd software plays but after 41-42 minutes into playing dvd, it goes out of sync with the film or music dvd. So i wonder is there a fault with win dvd software.Other software for playing films is fine
