DVD-RW not recognised correctly

The DVD-RW drive on my RS322 has suddenly started behaving weirdly. Neither Adobe Premiere (Pro) nor Encore, nor Nero recognise it as a DVD writer any more. It still plays DVDs, but won't record onto them.

At least not consistently. I have in front of me a DVD-R that was recorded on Monday (with no problems), the problems started Tuesday, I have a DVD+RW that I recorded this evening - totally unexpectedly during tests - now that won't record again. When the problem started NOTHING had been installed (manually) and all current attempts to solve have got nowhere. The BIOS is the latest version (now, it wasn't when the problem started).

Any ideas anyone? I don't seem to be the only VAIO user who has started having problems with their DVD drives in the last month or so (there are several comments on the Adobe site as well as the one on here from Danijl). Could it be a stealth Microsoft update?

Any help appreciated.

Jon
