I travel the world quite regularly. And therfore can buy dvd's everywhere. but alas, my PCV V1 will not let me view the movies I bought... At least not all of them.
Is there a way to make the DVD player region free?
Have you tried DVDRegionFree?
There used to be a program called DVD Genie that you could use to change the DVD region of the computer.
goto www.afterdawn.com download dvd region free 30 day demo, check it works, then pay for the full version(about 20 quid i think)...
failing that a sneaky way around it is to download dvd shrink, its a dvd ripping tool, and make a back up of the disc as it removes the region protection, then use the back up, remember, if you own the original, you can legally make a back up for yourself...
Or you could try AnyDVD and I think the other is DVD Decrypter.
Or as mentioned the DVD Shrink route which is handy for those originals you really like or watch alot as I've noticed some films I have degarade easily.
Luckily some come out cheaper sooner than before so I can then update any damaged originals.
Depends on how you treat the disks, you have to be really careful.
I agree there, I handle my disks carefully (phew! glad there were no typo's in that bit!)
But most of the people I know would just leave a disc out to collect dust if it's not their's.
I have had good results with DVD43free ( http://www.dvd43.com/ ) after installing the Patin-Couffin layer. Also have a look at http://www.dvdidle.com/products.htm - their software is also good and you can try it before you buy it.
LOL Leigh
Yeah it's quite a good thing that Rob.
leigh, dvd decrypter is ace software but can only back up dvd-5 (dvds 4.7 gb or under, single layer), most dvd films are dvd-9 (dual layer 9 gigers), you can use decrypter to rip the disc but then you need dvd2one to encrypt the film and make it under 4700mb, the you use nero to burn.... that process gives ace results but is a little long winded....
i use decrypter to back up my ps2 games as they are always under 4.7gb..its very simple, iso read to hd, then iso write to blank, dead simple...
dvdshrink is a great all in one tool
