dust clean-up

I am an owner of a nice fe-21m for over an year now. I already started feeling lucky, since there were no problems with the laptop so far.....except one really strange thing....
I went a few weeks ago to the shop where I bougth the laptop to ask them to do a little "spring cleaning" inside it. I did this since the temperatyre started raising recently and from 37-39 C idle it went to 50-56 C idle. It's clear this must be dust problem. The funny part is, that the guys at the shop refused to do this, although they say they do an onsite service for all the products they sell. I asked why and they said, this would void my warranty. They can only ship it back to sony so they can open and clean it. remembering what I saw on this forum, I said NO! No ****** way! They said, that if I return the laptop, they will replace it with another vaio model with the same specs and the same price. Ok then I thought, I willa ccept this if nothing else can be done. Now follows the 2nd problem: The laptop is not damaged enougth to change it. So the guy offered himself to blow the dust with a spray can, but he never opened the laptop just blowed a bit the copper grid on the back and said, the laptop was as clean as new.
Now I need a bit of advise on two problems (both not too legal to ask imo, but will try never the less):

1. How can someone damage his laptop so it looks like it is a warranty covered problem

or

2. is there a service manual for this sony model, since it seems I don't need any warranty at all. I am computer literate enougth to deal with the dust problem, just am not sure how to open the laptop directly. Most vaio models could have their speaker grid removed then the keyboard and so on untyill the heatsink. Not sure if this is the case here too.

Hi tameril,

Under normal circumstance a clean of the air vents using a can of compressed air (air duster) should suffice with a Vaio that is less than 2 years old.

However if this fails to reduce the CPU temperature then opening and deep cleaning may be the solution.

Have a look at this link for details on disassembly.

Never expected to find this on the official forums and never searched for it. Thank you Rich! This is going directly (printed) as an appendix in my laptop booklet.
Perhaps a post with such guides could be made sticky. :smileythinking:
