Control (Ctrl) Key not working!

Hi,
I have been experiencing a problem with the Ctrl key since about a month after I got my machine last June. When I go to Cut, Copy, Paste, Save, etc. All I get is the c, x, v, s, characters on the screen.

This is a replacement machine because the first one I got had a major problem with half the keyboard not responding at all after about 2 days of use. I am surprised there aren't lots of messages about this problem as I was warned (after buying the machine) that it happens to VAIO keyboards!

Anyway, back to my current situation; Sony want me to return the machine, after re-installing Windows to see if that fixes it, I desperately want to avoid that as I have too much set up done.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I buy an FZ11E notebook and half of keyboard was not working (the left part of it); after I managed to take off the keyboard, I reinsert the ribbon cable of the keyboard into its connector and from that time all the keys are working well. Maybe you should try the same thing. If you need help with opening up the notebook just tell me. Have fun

Hi, that sounds great. Did you have to take the back off your computer to get at the keyboard's ribbon? I used to work with laptops some time ago but they always had keyboards you could remove from on-top and I can't see how to do that with this one.

First of all we need to remove the plastic cover with multimedia keys (take off some screws from battery cage and push some plastic notch. After this step you may be able to rise the plastic cover); after this, just remove the 2 screw that hold the keyboard (in the upper corners) and remove it slowly; be careful with the ribbon connector from the motherboard : to remove the ribbon cable you need to pull towards you a part from that connector. Excuse me for my bad English.

I finally got around to trying this and unfortunately only made it worse :slight_frown:
First I turned the laptop upside down with the hinges at the top (away from me). Then I had to remove:
1. The four screws along the top (hinge side).
2. The two 'flat' screws under the battery.
3. Then two more screws in very strange places. 1 under the battery. and 1 under the cover for the memory. This one is one of a pair on either side of the catch but only one of them screws into the keyboard.

Then the keyboard fell out no problem. Only issue was that so did the connection tape. It was nearly impossible to slot it back into it's place. I needed a tweezers but did not have one, they don't make it easy! Eventually I got it in and the keyboard worked perfectly again but only for a matter of hours. Then about ten of the letter keys and many of the control keys failed on me again. Obviously that connection is VERY loose.

I am writing now on an external keyboard I bought for $9.99 but I would dearly love to have my keyboard working again. I can't sit on the sofa and type emails like this as the screen has to be too far away from me :slight_frown:

I think I'll try one more time and see if I can add some blue-tack to get it to stay in this time otherwise I'll quit in case they tell me my warranty is voided by the messing around I did. If they dare do that I'll raise hell about their shoddy product but would rather not have to
