I have recently purchased a 2nd user Vaio laptop (K315M) and recovered the machine using the appropriate recovery software. I was wondering if anyone can help shed some light on the following:
Instead of the default 20GB I have made the C; drive 15 GB will this be sufficient?
Also when you recovery everything including the applications it takes over 7GB this seems an awful lot is it possible to recovery only the applications you require? Or do you then have to remove all those you don¿t want?
For example it comes with MS-works but I want to remove this and place MS office on instead
Also Norton is loaded by default, I assume this is not free? Therefore is it difficult to remove.
Finally though it is a 3.0GHZ processor on a relatively empty machine does any one find this slow?
Thanks John.

With this, you can make a own setup CD without any software. (only WinXP is on this CD) Yep, one CD-R is totally enough for WinXP.

Norton? No it burns only WinXP on the CD.
But, you need after the installation the Driver and the Util packeg. You must download it from the VAIO-Link.

But what is this for a s*** : 5,6GB reserved for recovery space
And I have noticed that I can't install software from my Recovery DVD!
There is section in your software manual that covers changing or removing software.
Manual.
I seem to remember, from a previous thread, that removing Norton completely is a little bit trickier than they suggest. I will see whether I can find that particular thread.
Thanks Rich912 much appreciate it if you can find the Norton removal thread. Also do you think 15GB is enough for the C drive and do you find your machine rather slow???
Cheers Jd76
This is the thread that I refered to.

Hi John
I suggest 20GB for C:
Use 😧 to store files and just leave C as a programs and OS partition.
As for Norton and Works, 'fraid you have to uninstall them, Sony are not very flexible like that.
Thanks for all your help lol' I don't have a problem with Sony supplying you with various programs but they should have provided an option to remove all these cleanly and also when recovering the HD they should have provided an option to selectively restore.
I have seen from other posts that it may be possible that my machine is slow because of speedstep, I don't really know what this is and how to determine if I have it activated or not. Also the fan is quite noisy do you know of anyway to quieten it down? finally I hope how do you get into the BIOS on a sony laptop. normally it's an fn key at bootup can you tell me which one.
Thanks again JD76
I don't know a great deal about speedstep, but this should help you.
To enter the BIOS press F2 at startup.
