Activating motioneye built in camera

I've just bought a Vaio FE41Z and am trying to use the motioneye camera which is built into the laptop. However, it doesn't seem to be installed and it is not clear how to activate it.

Can anyone help?

Hi dcollings and welcome.

Do you have (new for Vista) Vaio Camera Capture Utility in Start -> All Programs? What Version do you have installed? Try opening this - can you see your own image?

The Vaio Camera Utility (which was present in XP) works differently in Vista - you cannot open it manually from My Computer. However, it should open and work automatically if you configire Skype or another IM program.

Open Skype -> Tools -> Options -> Video Settings
Enable Video and select the Sony Visual Camera
Do you see your image and does the Vaio Camera Utility open?

If neither work, have you installed Microsoft Hotfix KB931812 ? Does you camera appear in Device Manager under Imaging Devices? Is it installed correctly?

Welcome to the club,
Under programs do you have Vaio Camera Capture utility and if so does it swith the light on but not work? If you have skype installed then get the latest update as the standard factory skype doesn't work with the webcam. Once updated go into your skype account or set one up and enter tools>options> webcam settings and ensure that sony visual communication camera is selected. This will determine if there is a clash with the on board Vaio software

Thanks for the information. I have got the camera to work now - it was in camera capture utility, as you advised. Probably should have looked harder.

I've got a follow on question. How do I use it in MSN Messenger? When I try to make a video call I get a message: "Your conversation cannot begin because your camera is currently in use or not plugged in. Make sure your camera is available and try again".

Do you know how i can remedy this?

Cheers!

If you haven't installed it, I would download Microsoft Hotfix KB931812. This may help.

IT WILL BE GO, I'm sure;; you need te time to use it. When I go to msn messenger, you can click to 'camera use' and tere you can install it. Don't worry.. it takes a few times, also with me, but now I can use it.
