Hello All,
Sorry for starting a new thread on this, but these are my experiences with the pocket:
When I first bought it from Dixons a couple of weeks ago for 200 pounds, I couldn't belive the bargain I had, I had just been to a computer fair to buy an MP3 player, I was going to try to get a Creative Zen 60 gb model, hoping to pay around 250, but there wasn't any there, so I popped into Dixons on the off chance, just as they were having there special offer.
I got it home, worried about the lack of instructions in the box, and the fact that the battery was totally discharged. (I found the instructions pdf on the install disk) I charged it overnight and transfered some tracks via Sonicstage as I already has it installed (I have got a NetMd player) Everything went cool, until the next day when I tried to transfer more tracks, sonicstage wouldn't work, saying that the player was "incompatible". After much reading of these threads, installing and uninstalling versions 2.1, 2.3 and 3.1, the firmware updates and the VAIO music transfer, it still wouldn't work.
I took some advice from other threads, installed 3.1 again from the link and the other parts mentioned and initialised the player. this was a bit scary at first, because it formats the player, deleting all of my hard work, but when it had finished, ss3.1 recognised the player and all has been good since. Once you click on auto transfer, ss checks the player and transfers all of the tracks not currently on there.
Another problem was the info for the tracks in the menus, you really need to make sure that it is all there before transferring to the player, otherwise you will spend hours like me manually typing it all back in again, hopefully making it easier to search for songs via the remote. The album covers were transfered by copying the JPEGs to the user001 folder, then selecting the album and whilst it was playing, go into the folder and allocate it with the right hand menu, it works this way, even if it is a little laborious.
I now have over 3000 tracks on it, putting cd's on via ss or drag and drop with music transfer set on 256, space isn't an issue at the moment.
I have also purchased the cover mentioned in another thread http://www.pdairshop.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=224
but I have only just realised that it is for the 20gb version, I'm positive that it never mentioned the size before, anyway, I've contacted them to see if it will fit, I've got a nagging feeling it won't, but if they make a 40gb version, it's the best looking cover I've seen around, I'll let you all now when it arrives.
Sorry if this is boring to read, but it covers a few questions asked elsewhere.
