Xperia S NFC file sharing with ICS 4.0.4 fails

Hello all.

I live in Sweden and have a recently upgraded Xperia S handset ICS ver. 4.0.4 and 6.1.A.0.452.

I have tried several times to recieve files with NFC and it fails totaly. It ends up with that the handset starts to search at Play Market for an app and then fails with a message saying that it cannot find requested info. How is it possible that Sony have not checked that this function is working correctly?

Where is the access to the Xperia Smart tag app? It is installed but no program icon exists?

Regards

Kurt

Cant say anything about NFC files transfer, but you can configure Xperia Smart Tags through Settings>Xperia>LiveWare Manager>Xperia Smart Tags (you will have the same options as before than you run Xperia Tags app).

Android 4.0.x (Ice Cream Sandwich) doesn't support NFC file transfer using Android Beam, only text content can be transfered this way (URL, text...etc).

Only S-Beam between Samsung Galaxy S III handsets or Android Beam between Android 4.1.x (Jelly Bean) have support for file transfer.

Thanks PVV

I have now tested it through LiveWare, but it was not that obvious. I think Sony should update the Help section in the handset, because you have to enable NFC, start LiveWare and then hold the Smart Tags near the phone to have it appear int LiveWare and to be able to config the tags.

Ok, thanks.

I hope that Sony are on it's toes and will release the 4.1 Jelly Bean A.S.A.P. Resolve the bug issues with ICS 4.0.4 quickly, because they are loosing trust from their customers. It could be a fantastic smartphone with ICS but now it is mostly irritating.

For me it is the over all lag, poor battery stamina and Bluetooth audio stuttering that is the biggest issues. Also, I have had some occasional system crashes and reboots.

This is no fault of Sony as NFC File Transfer Support is implemenetd by the OS and not by individual manufacturer.

You want File Transfer on NFC, wait for Jelly Bean to be release or buy a device with Jelly Bean.

Alternatively, bluetooth file transfer protocol does the same thing anyway. :>)

Good luck!
