Will my Greenheart ELM work in Japan?

I know I have 3G capability on my phone and that Japan is also 3G but cannot find any detailed Technical Specs to confirm that the two 3G networks are the same spec.

TIA

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/japan/860925-3g-cellphone-eu-japan-sim-card.html Yeah sorry, didn't realise that Japan doesn't have a 2G network. However, have a look at this discussion which mentions, among other things, that if your mobile supports 3G at the 2100  MHz frequency, which the Elm does, then you shouldn't have a problem.

Most networks do support 3G at 2100 MHz (which the Elm does as well), so it will depend on which Jpanese network you are planning to use.

I don't mind really as I won't be making that many calls. Mainly for emergency use as I will be driving through Japan.

Well if you're just going to use the same network and not swapping to a local SIM card, then you probably will not have a choice as to which local network "adopts" you anyway. In any case, if it's just voice calls you're going to use it for, then don't worry too much about having 3G reception.

Ah..now I am confused as I thought that Japan only had 3G. Are you saying that they also have GSM...as in the UK?

Hi

I use my J10i2 in Japan regularly with no problems. It works in S. Korea too now (also no GSM). In both cases this is roaming with an Orange UK SIM.
