USB OTG for ICS

I've ICS 4.0.3 & a USB OTG cable. My Arc S detect my USB mouse & the keyboard via the OTG cable. But it doesn't detect any mass storage devices such as flash drives. Is it a problem with the ICS ? Can I solve this by updating to 4.0.4 ?

Xperia arc S supports USB OTG as default but only for mouse and keyboard. If you would like to use flash drives you'll need to have root access on your phone which could risk your warranty. See the Android development sub forum for more info.

HI! You should download USB Mass Storage for Xperia Arc in Google Play or search for USB OTG Helper v2 these are the apps Im using for my arc s whenever I want to mount an external flash drive. Your phone needs to be rooted though.

So why don't they allow to use USB OTG mass storage devices without rooting this stuff. Really hate rooting Slightly_frowning_Face

I don't understand it, Xperia Pro would be a good mini computer on the way, but it don't have USB disk connection ... so stupid situation ....

e.g.:

I take photos with DSLR and I need device like Xperia Pro for loading RAW or JPG pics

and some similar editing its and sendig its via wi-fi or 3G to the world

BUT, so stupid situation .... it doesn't work with my camera like USB disk

and I need  to add netbook to my luggage ...  !!!!

And Sony OTG cable isn't small but only big stupid docking station !!!

I have a xperia mini Pro (Android 4.0.4) and I have the same problem: I can use USB to connect mouse and keyboard, but I cannot connect a flash drive.

Is there any "update package" to fix this yet?
