Need help, Update 2.1 to 2.3 (or the 3.0.1.g.0.75)

Hi, I have a sony ericsson X10i and this type of phone is new to me. Im trying to update this phone with the pc campanion and I'm stuck on the prepare phone section. I don't understand the steps to preparing he phone for the update.

• "Press and hold the back key while connecting the USB cable into the phone."

So that section I need elp with please respond. My Firmware is 2.1.

update with this if you are facing troubles with pc companion

SUS ( Sony Update Service)  ... download and install it on pc and follow the on-screen instructions http://www-support-downloads.sonymobile.com/Software%20Downloads/Update_Service_Setup-2.11.12.5.exe

for holding back button- when it asks to prepare your phone, first insert the data cable into your mobile without doing anything,, now keep your mobile on table(to easily operate), press and hold the back button and insert the other end of usb cable in the pc
