Bought Xperia Acro S today. It was a very good phone, well satisfied with it. Not until I installed Quickpic (3rd party picture viewer). And to my surprise, the pics from the Album app and Quickpic are exactly the same in terms of color saturation, noise and contrast! WHY is that SONY?
I have had Xperia ARC and RAY for a year or so, then sold the ARC because of the "CRACK" near the sensor. Got Samsung GSII with a horrible screen which I dont wanna look at, then sold it after 3 days and made me go back to SONY. But til this time after reading several comments, a lot of people noticed that the mBE is not working and Sony is not giving any CLEAR answer or solution for the issue.
I had about 20 SE phones and this is the first real Sony phone I have, please don't disappoint me. Any moderator or Sony Exec, please give me a reasonable answer for this query.
Solved! Go to Solution.
I would like to say to those of you who have not unlocked your boot loader that if a reboot after changing your mBE settings doesn't help I suggest that you contact your local support team to have your phone examined and fixed at an repair center.

total disappointment johan! put yourself in our shoes!
what you're saying then is that sony wont issue a fix for this issue? will not even exert efforts in making it work?
HOW COME IT WORKS ON MY XPERIA ARC AND RAY ON SLOW AND BUGGY ICS WHEN BOTH HAVE UNLOCKED BOOTLOADERS?!!
Hi, I just want to give an update about my phone.
You remembered that I didn't unlock the bootloader, right? I checked the other functions that are normally lost along with the loss of the DRM keys: Music info download and geolocalisation in Messaging: not working.
So I tried the following:
1- Reset the system to factorys state in settings: Didn't help (note that I was surprised to find that I still had root and CWM recovery).
2- Flashed Gingerbread (.75) with Flashtool: Bravia engine was back but this was expected because it's working in GB for everyone, right?
3 - Tried to update the phone with PCC... Failed. Why? Because strangely, the phone internal memory couldn't be accessed from the computer. Apparently this is a known problem with GB, dicussed on this forum, something that has to do with the MTP application screwing up.
4 - Flashed ICS (.452) with Flashtool: Bravia Engine is still working and MTP is back!
5 - Updated to ICS latest firmware (.45) with PC Companion: still working, cool!
6 - Root (bin4ry method) and install CWM Recovery: still OK so I made a Nandroid backup of this state (.45 with root, nothing else).
7 - Restored my apps with Titanium: still OK!
8 - Restored settings/system data with Titanium... Bravia Engine is gone 😞
9 - Restored the Nandroid backup (step 6), restored missing apps with titanium, and then this time restored Settings with PC Companion instead of Titanium.... Bravia Engine is gone again!
10 - As a last approach, I restored the apps with Titanium and then restored only a few basic data/settings with Titanium (Contacts, SMS, call log, data usage, and that's about it) -> All is still working!
So as a summary, for those who have the BE/DRM problem even though they didn't unlock bootloader:
- Don't try to do a factory settings reset via the phone, it doesn't work. Instead try to flash a firmware with Flashtool or maybe a repair with PC Companion (I haven't tried this option but it might work equally well since it downloads the whole firmware again).
- If you have root access, restore the apps and their data but not the system data, or make sure that the system settings that you restore are just the elementary ones.
On a side note:
- I find Bravia Engine to be nice but I also had idealized it a little... Many images look too oversaturated, in fact the Xperia S screen offers such nice colours by default that this gadget is not that necessary after all... BE also seems to make browsing in Album a little slower and sluggish.
- The latest firmware (French) downloaded with PC companion brought a couple of games (short) demos and a link to Gameloft that can't be uninstalled: NOT COOL, SONY.
Thankfully this crap can be removed with Titanium Root but seriously, this sucks!
I swear my ION will be the last Sony Product if you can not fix it.:smileyangry:
I wish to recover te BRAVIA ENGINE!!! PLEASE SONY....Only that I ask you. For unlocked bootloaders. We hope that fix in Jelly Bean update
PLEASE SONY
Really a shame that SONY still doesn't have a fix for the mBE issue even after 4 months! I guess i was correct in assuming that there would probably be no fix for this by sony, not on ICS anyways! So, i moved to note2 and shall give away the Xperia S to my brother (with GB rom that has working mBE and flawless camera QL). I really liked my Xperia S, if only it wasn't f**ked up by sony ICS update! Wouldn't buy a sony mobile again coz sony doesn't seem to care much about the existing customers, but only keen on launching new phones!
