Messaging stopped working LT25i

i have recently purchased the experia v. it is an awsome phone exept for the battery life thats horrible,. today i received a text, and when i opened the text it said that my messaging has stopped. and would fail to open any older message, and cant send a new text as well. however my whatsapp and mails are working fine.

is there an update that can sot out this issue or do i need to get the phone replaced?

You could try going to Settings - Apps - All and look for Messaging and open it then tap on Clear data, Now try to open your messages and if that fails then you may need to perform a Settings reset via Settings - Backup and reset then tap on Settings reset NOT Factory data reset

You got the answer to your question so I just gonna comment on your battery life time. For how long have you used it? The Android system takes a week or to to adopt how you use the phone so you cant say anything about the battery life the first one or two weeks. I bought my on December 26 and the first thirteen days the battery time sucked, about half the barrery was used during seven hours in night. Then about day thirteen and fourteen it went to be excellent. Drops just a few percent each night.
