local support for sms

hi,

i've found an annoying bug in my ray,

i'm french and when i write some sms with special accent like "ë", the caracter takes many space in the 160 caracters limit.

btw thirds apps like GosmsPro or Handcent SMS can handle with it but not the native sms application....

can sony fix it ?

This is according to specification. Not sure how 3rd party apps function on this part but special characters like ë will convert the message into different coding which supports less characters per message.

hi Markus,

in 3rd party app there is just a box to check in option called : locale support > french support

then the "ë" count like a "e"

may i miss an option to check in native sms android option ?

I can register your comment so it's available for consideration for the developers. Right now there's no such option though. If e.g. Handcent SMS can do this I suggest you use this app until there's a change in the stock app.

thx for the answer, that's funny that a "smart"phone can't handle that without a third app

hope developers will fix it for accent based language

Haha, true. I guess you can also consider it smart for allowing so many different and smart apps to easily be installed and "take over" the stock features.
