How do you delete text messages from inbox on Xperia St phone ?

I have a history of messages in my inbox which I would like to delete, how do I do this?

I cannot retrieve messages from my message notification box?    I have a back log of about 5 messages which I cannot retrieve, How do I do this?

My phone is an XPERIA St25i

have you tried to press and hold on the message you want to delete until it brings up a menu with the option to delete conversation?

to delete messages, click on delete several and delete the messages.

Would you know how I can retrieve some text messages which I have in my notifications box,  it reads that i have 8 messsages which I cannot retrieve.   ?
