Hi, I wonder if anyone knows...
If I switch on GPS but none of the applications which use it are running, does it still run down the battery. It doesn't show the GPS logo on the top bar until I launch an application that uses it.
Obviously while running it will run down the battery a little faster than when not switched on or being used.
Thanks,
Mike,.

Nopes it doesn't ( most probably. i will confirm though ). it remains off unless being forced by some app.
However why to take A chance and not switch it off ??
You could see google maps in the running list of apps THROUGH OUT the year :smileyhappy:, so it may result in unnecessary drainage. Better to ........
Use GPS switch widget to switch it on/off in no time

Thanks for that info Nabeel.
I have put the widget on the home page.
I now have 5 power control items...
Wi-fi ? GPS ? Brightness.
What do the two logos that I have indicated with the '?' refer to?
Thanks,
Mike.
They refer to nothing but are switches to on and off wifi and gps with one touch.....
if they show green signal = on
no signal= off
Please correct me if you meant something else
Sorry if I didn't make that clear Nabeel.
What I was asking was what does the second icon and what was the forth icon switch off and on?
I don't recognise what those two icons stand for, I know the 1st, 3rd and 5th; they are Wi-fi, GPS and Brightness. Just need to know what the second and forth icons do.
I see how the others work now.
Also is there any way of keeping the icon on the home page? It seems to disappear when I switch the phone off and revert to the Google search icon in the centre of the screen when I switch it on again.
Catch you tomorrow; going off-line now this end.
Thanks for all your help,
Mike.
I have now found what the two icons do; no.2 is 'bluetooth' and no.4 is 'accounts and sync'.
Didn't realise you had to scroll sideways to see the installed widgets; so all is well now.
Many thanks for all your help; this is my first android phone so I am on a sharp learning curve.
Mike.
Buddy i am really sorry, i missed your thread,
thousand appologies, actually i was really busy , really really busy
Since you replied again i got the notification.
Great that you sorted it out otherwise i would have asked you for a screenshot , because i am on ICS and not GB ( different widgets)
Please feel free to ask anything
No problem at all Nabeel; I was very grateful for your help.
Mike.
