Google Sky Map/Space Junk apps shows West as East (East also as East)

I recently purchased Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman WT19i

I installed Google Sky Map in it. (I like star/satellite watching)

After that I noticed that Google Sky Map shows North, South and East correctly.

But West is shown as EAST.

When I point to South and move towards West, screen gets stuck (for 1-2 seconds) and suddenly East appears when I am actually facing West. Planets and Stars which are shown when facing at East, same planets/stars are shown when facing West as well.

At first I thought its Google Sky Map problem. But then I downloaded another app called "Space Junk". This app exhibited the same problem.

So clearly something is wrong with my phone's compass. Any solution?? Can Sony Ericsson confirm this as a bug?

Can someone else owning same phone confirm by downloading Google Sky Map from Android market? If they are facing the problem or not?

Hi I have sent my phone for repair (official center). But the repair guy had no idea what I was talking abt. He was showing exclamation when I was trying to explain him abt EAST/WEST thing.

I did not have confidence in him but I still gave it for repair and now I am worried abt my phone. So I have few questions to ask.

Please read the following and please tell me that my phone is in safe hands. I will trust your answers.

He kept on insisting that I shud upgrade software when I already showed him that I have 4.0.2.A.0.62 installed. Then he re-installed everything again to same version. (this is where i lost confidence in him). He had no idea abt what is Sony Ericsson Upgrade Service software. He told me I did it wrong and that software does not work.

Even after his update didnt work, he said, its network problem (another blunder). So I showed him its full network with excellent HSDPA connectivity.

Then he said he will have to change motherboard. I asked him if this is accelerometer problem, from his face it seemed he had no idea what accelerometer is.

But I didnt have any option, because I wanted to get my phone error corrected.

So my questions.

1) Is changing the motherboard right solution for my problem?

2) Will changed motherboard be brand new or refurbished or so?

3) What is the experience test that Sony ericsson does for a service engineer?

4) If this engineer fails to solve the problem, how do I escalate my problem?

5) Will I get a replacement phone if problem cant be corrected by service center? If yes, what is the right process? I am in India (Mumbai).

Please please answer my questions, I have faith in you but currently no faith in repair center.

One more point I forgot to tell is that guy was telling me that it can take 40days for repair?!

It looked more like to discourage me for giving it for repairs and accept the fault as is.

But on my insisting and bit arguing he said 40days is not always true, sometimes it may be ready in 2 days as well.

So this is all what makes me doubt abt seriousness by Sony ericssion or its repair center.

i too facing the same issue, but i think its not a hardware issue bcz.. every compass shows the right cordination so the magnetomeeter is ok, i think issue is limited to software...

I think its not magnetometer.. its fault in accelerometer.

Magnetometer is single plane.... x and y axis

accelerometer has x, y and z.

compass uses magnetometer.. hence it shows correct directions

google sky map/satellite AR/space junk,... this 3 apps use accelerometer. as they need 3 dimensions.

so they show wrong directions.

Btw do u have exact same problem? i.e. North, East and South correct but only West shown as East wrongly?

Umm.. tomorrow it will be 5 days. And I have still not got response

I am expecting positive response from SE moderator here.

Calling service center they informed it may still take 10days as they are awaiting parts.. this is unacceptable.

Whats the point if I dont get quick service in BIGGEST CITY of India which is having biggest mobile market demand.

From 7 years I used Nokia..with quick service. First time I took sony ericsson phone and I get this service.

Its creating bad impression.

I contacted local Sony Ericsson support over phone.

After explaining problem to CC, the call was transferred to senior person.

It was weird to hear from him that he did not have Live with walkman with him to test the application.

So he installed Google Sky Map and Satellite AR on Xperia Play and said its WORKING fine!!

So he asks me to reinstall everything again (which I have already done numerous time). He also tells me to update "satellite database". I have no idea how it is related to this when 3 most popular applications are giving same problem?

In the end his tone was such that he is trying to avoid solving my problem. But I stressed on for resolution so in the end he said he will try on other android mobiles and call me back in 2hrs. (Btw I was promised a call back in 30min earlier too which never happened and I had to call again after waiting for 5hrs)

So Sony Ericsson service center failed!

Sony Ericsson support forum stopped responding completely.

And now Sony Ericsson tech. support is also on verge of giving no solution?

What shud I do? Give up?
