Gmail application is not updating automatically!

I have a Xperia Arc S which is update and all other application working normally except the gmail.

My gmail app is not retrieving emails automatically. I have to open it and referesh manually to receive emails. Gmail Notification is on and I have ticked the background data traffic. auto-sync is active and it sychronized with my contacts, calendar and Gamil.

I tried different connections and used WIFI to connect, but nothing changed at all. still I have to update my gmail app manually. I have googled it and found that many other people faced to same problem, but no solution was given.

How can I solve this problem? has anyone faced to this problem with Arc S recently?

I have gmail sync but it doesn't appear on the "running apps" so don't worry about it

so you already did the

settings -> applications -> manage applications -> all -> gmail

uninstall updates then restart the phone, go to the market -> press MENU -> my apps -> and look for updates

all these options are ticked and selected. I have mentioned up there that I activated auto-sync for google. my facebook and skype work great and notify me for any new messages. the only problem is with gmail app.

I don't know if it's gmail app problem or my phone settings! there is no new update for gmail app to do. (if the problem is due to old version).:smileysad:

So, still trying to find a solution, since my emails are really important for me.

are you using a taskiller?

No, I hate that. I only use a few apps like: file manager, BBC news, video player and only 2/3 games as my phone only last 10 days.

btw, I also cleared the cache for gmail app, but no changes. in Applications Settings, I can't find the gmail app under running applications whereas the Skype, Yahoo and facebook are running. seems my gmail is not running in background.

I too had the same problem. Google have introduced new security measures for accessing gmail accounts from andriod devices. Not sure how to enable this. I had been requested by gmail to turn on these features, after this I am able to retrieve mails.

Go to account settings. Check for 2-step verification. Give all the information and turn it on. Thats it, you will be able to retrieve mails.

It worked and I received emails for a few hours. but suddenly stopped.

I realized that all depend to auto sync and when it starts synchronizing the gmail. I checked it and the last sync was 2 hours ago which means for the last 2 hours, i never notified for new emails.

I did unistall the updates and didnot look for new update. those who have problem, just do that and never, never update your gmail app untill release of known updates.

I hope it remain working as it is now.

Thanks uliwooly,
