clear guide for to root for beginners

I want to root my xperia ray which has factory 2.3.4 android. I read some guides about "how to root xperia". But still I am not sure if rooting a 4.0.4 is the same as 2.3.4. Also I didn't end up with a conclusion that "to root xperia ray with 2.3.4, steps are 1, 2, 3, ...". May be this question is answered before. If yes, please let me know about that.

rooting 2.3.4 with build number .42 it's quite easy, just download SuperOneClick -> run it -> restart your phone -> done it takes about a  minute or less to root

Is there any concern about mounting/unmounting the sd card? should I pull if off from the back of phone? any consideration?

I would backup my SD card

on your PC

1) open any folder -> click on tools -> properties -> view -> show hidden files

2) mount the SD card, go to your SD card, press Ctrl + A then Ctrl C, on your desktop create a new folder, open it, then press CTRL + V
