On my Xperia U, I can remove the SIM card without removing the battery. I'm using same SIM card for the 3G dongle and I need to swap SIM cards several times in my phone. I would like to know if it is safe to simply pull one SIM card and put a different one instead, without shutting down the phone?
Safe = without damaging/locking/corrupting either the SIM card or the phone.

the network drivers may be corrupted by this. why not shut down the phone or at least use airplane mode before pulling the sim out.
Is there any damaged to phone by turning off the phone several times?
Try it, you can't.
It will restart as soon as you remove the sim.
Then its not good to remove sim without phone off
no damage upto reasonable levels, but u can use airplane mode if u dont wanna turn off too many times.
ya try to switch off before removing SIM.
