Camera not working after 2.3 gingerbread update

I recently got my x10i from a friend who had never updated it from the original 1.6 android version that it came with, so i have updated to the recent gingerbread update. The problem is that since the update, the buil in camera app will open, but as soon as i press the shutter button (or use the touch function) to take a picture it hangs and won't do anything until i exit. All the while it is hanging it is actively displaying whatever i point it at, but it won't take a picture. The annoying thing is that other camera apps such as camera360 work fine and will take photos, but i want to be able to use the face recognition and video functionality of the built in app. Any ideas?

Hey,

I have had the exact same problm as Faceplant and I tried both of your suggestions but it didn't help. I also contacted the SE support who recommended repairing the software using PC Companion but the problem still persists. I am open to any other suggestions!! Please help!

ok all, I might have al least a partial fix for you. I upgraded to 2.3 directly from 1.6 and experienced the same issues as above. After *alot* of messing around, I did the following and both the camera and camcorder are now working almost 100%.

**For the following series of steps, if at any stage you get a popup stating the camera/application is busy or not responding, choose the option to WAIT**

1. Start the camera

2. Go into the Focus Mode menu option.

3. Select the Multi auto focus option

4. Switch to camcorder mode

5. Go into the Scenes menu option

6. Switch to Landscape

7. Exit the camera/camcorder app

8. Open up your memory card in a file explorer...I use ES File Explorer from the Android Market.

9. Browse to /sdcard/DCIM/

10. Rename your existing folder 100ANDRO to something else...I renamed to Bkp100ANDRO

That's it.

When you first use the camera, it creates a new folder called 100ANDRO, and all photo's go into this folder.

The camera now works provided you leave it on Multifocus and all other menu options work without issue

The camcorder now works perfectly provided you don't select the 'Normal' Scene mode

Limitations

a. Camera

If you do change the focus type, to infinity or macro, the camera does appear to carry on working, but the old popup can appear again. However, if you select wait, again the camera appears to continue working

Single focus is a disaster. You may get 1 photo before you have to exit the camera

b. Camcorder

You can use all scene types, but if you select Normal, any further menu option access will result in the usual wait/force close popup

Hope this helps at least some of you

Ignore the rooting solution, not working anymore. Worked for few days then back to 'shutting down'. Also SD cache is not helping.:smileysad:

One new thing found: If camera is plugged in to power for charging, video works normally. I suspect power related issue here. Can some one from SE throw some light.

Regards,

Alok
