Hello everyone...this is my first post here, so please be nice.
I've regularly been reading this forum ever since I've decided to purchase the Xperia S a few weeks ago. My decision remains unchanged. 🙂
What I do need your collective advice on is how to determine the difference between a 2011 XS and a 2012 XS.
From what I've read in various places, the 2012 model seems to be getting the ICS upgrade, and potentially even JB (eventually)!
Out here in Dubai, ICS has just rolled out to most handsets; not specifically sure which year models though.
I'm going to be making the purchase this weekend and wanted to know if there was a way I could tell the difference myself rather than just taking the sales persons' word for it.
It of course comes with GB preloaded; whether the 2 NFC tags are included or not in the pack are a different matter I suppose.
Any help/guidance is greatly appreciated in advance.
Cheers!

All Xperia S LT26i's will be getting ICS the only variation is when the upgrade for a given SI number is released. See the sticky thread on SI numbers by Johan at the top of the page this shows where to find the SI number
I think you may be confused by the discussions about 2011 handsets like the 'Xperia Arc S' badged under SE not just plain Sony. Based on Sony's comments to date we should see Jelly Bean on the NXT Xperia S (LT26i) but ICS is out now.
Xperia S 2011? but the Xperia S its from this year, 2012

just check the SI number on this list and check if the phone that you are about to buy is on the list

XS was just announced on Jan 2012 and begas selling I think in March or April 2012.
Anyway you might be talking about the LT26ii which is an unannouced yet beefed up version of the xperia s.
This one is not out yet.
the xperia SL will be the same as the xperia S, same hardware, the only difference is that the CPU will be overclocked but still the same
Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon overclocked at 1.7GHz

Awesome! Thanks to all you guys! Will just print out the list before I go to collect the handset...just hope the SI is visible without opening the box to check inside.
Thanks once again.
P.s. hope my ICS upgrade goes smooth. Would hate to have complex issues like some of the others here. I'm in love with this handset way too much (my first android after the migration from Nokia symbian E72-2). Fingers crossed. 🙂
the Xperia S box it's not sealed so it shouldn't be an issue checking
