6.0.A.3.73 Update for the Philippines

Hello, All!

It seems that most of the countries in the South-East Asia region have already had their update for the Xperia S.  Don't know if the update for my country is still pending or maybe we are being overlooked. Up until now I don't understand why the roll-out is taking a long time to happen.  It would seem like Sony Mobile is just letting us decide that it is better to wait for the ICS update, than wait for the firmware update.  This would have been okay if SXS users just let their phones sit on a desk and not use it as much as the phone's purpose intends it to be used.  To be honest, I feel like being left out just because our country is just a small population to be considered using the Xperia S and that it wouldn't matter to Sony Mobile if a small population rants while waiting.

I bought my phone sim-free directly from Sony Mobile, even purchased extended warranty for it.  There's just too much bloatware running in the background that I've heard will be fixed by the update, thus saving more juice in your battery.  As of now, I would need to charge the phone twice a day.  I know I use it too much, but that's the reason why I actually purchased the phone, so don't hate on me if I don't agree that to save battery, you gotta turn off practically everything.  I need most of the features working like email, social network feeds, accounts sync, etc., just exactly why it is called a smartphone.  I bought the phone for its technical specifications so I mean to use it as it was sold.

As I mentioned, my phone was bought sim-free so a standard/generic update should work fine on my phone.  Why is it not even available?  I'm not an advanced user so I can't really follow the approach by XDA (who seems to assume everything in the forum is a developer).  I simply want my phone to last longer, without me turning off what it says it can do on paper.

Please don't let this question be left unanswered just like my previous post I raised two days ago:

Here's hoping we're not being overlooked.

Cheers!

Ferdinand

All software updates are network and region specific.

I would suggest you contact your local support team directly for more information regarding this.

To my knowledge this update is currently being rolled but as I mentioned earlier this will be dependant on your region.

You can find the correct contact details here:

To me I have the same feeling.  Do you think Singapore and Malaysia are in diffenrent regeion separately from the Philippine and Thailand, don't you?

All Singapore and Malaysia already got the .73 FW, but nothing here.  Everytime PC companion checks is still "Your Phone is Up to Date".

Come on Sony, you are about to take away all credential and trust from your fans around here.  Your handsets almost rare items here.  Or I have to understand that the customers  in my country are all low class users and do not need to be cared!!!

There are a lot of Xperia S users waiting for the minor update, even though it was released on the UK not all UK Xperia S got the update.

Finally! .73 Update is here!

Just finished downloading and installing the firmware and first thing I immediately noticed is how smoother the interface is now (not that it wasn't smooth before).

I will play a bit with my phone, and see what other significant changes I can identify, and then of course I will update you guys.

Just so you know, I bought my Xperia S on April 17, unlocked and sim-free so if you purchased yours (if anyone in the country beat me to it that is) before this date, then there's a good chance that your update is already awaiting for you, so plug in your phone to your computer and use the Sony Update Service and enjoy the update.

I will be right back to deliver the goodies!

Hi, Jonathan!

I'm still marvelling at how obvious the performance, speed-wise and responsiveness-wise, has improved. No lags whatsoever.  Can't give any sort of feedback for the battery yet but I will be back here tomorrow to let you guys know how it does.  But other than those, what other things should I expect from the update?  Can't seem to scour the forums on what the update brings about to the phone so if there is an existing thread where the update is discussed, and the things that should be expected, please point me to that direction.  That way, I can check my phone and provide feedback.  Most threads I've seen are just basically inquiries on when the update is gonna be rolled out.

To be honest, when the SUS indicated that there is an update, I got really excited!  It didn't say FW update (.73) so I was crossing my fingers that it would be ICS, so I also started taking screenshots.  It would have been cool to be the first one to say hello to an official ICS release for the SXS.  But of course when the phone booted up, it is just the FW update, so what I thought was Santa Claus was just some old bloke in a red costume... Lol.  But all the same, I am happy with the update.  i would just about install ANY official update you guys feed me.

So, just to recap, if there's an existing link about the .73 FW update, and the things that I can expect about it, please let me know.  I'm eager to share it to my fellows on this board and of course to those in my country who's been waiting as well.

Cheers!
