USB Mass Storage Mode Option

Hi.

I tried following this guide to switch an Xperia M4 to USB mass storage mode https://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiam4aqua/userguide/Managing-files-using-a-computer/

However either this guide appears to be wrong or there is something wrong with the software on my phone as there is no option in the USB connectivity settings menu for USB connection mode there is only an option to install software.

I would really prefer if the phone could use mass storage mode and the windows PC could access the ExFAT file system directly as with MTP mode the date modified of files is wrong and this makes it hard to keep track of which files need backing up without a correct modification date.

Here is a screenprint of my USB connectivity settings menu if any admins think this is too large I will edit and delete it and replace it with a link.

I guess I have my answer even though that topic is for a different model.

Seriously? Is there anything advanced you can do with an unrooted phone? And I bought it unlocked full price too for pay and go sim use.

I have only had this phone for a few weeks now and it's still under Warrenty for a year but I am already considering rooting it.

And I thought the restrictive SD card permissions were bad enough with most phones but now this with the xperia only. I have never had a problem using mass storage mode on my galaxy.

And the xperia phone also has an issue with audio glitches when playing mp3 or mpeg 4 aac formats with audio enhancements such as eq enabled i have also mentioned on this forum.

All these issues though first the sound and then I find the firmware does not support mass storage mode.

I can't really root it anyway if I want to take it back to the carphone warehouse under their warrenty.

Looks like sony are losing a customer.

I am sorry, indeed it is for a different device but the reply from Rickard was that all new devices only support MTP connections now.

Also, apps moved to SD card and the problems that occur afterwards are google's fault.

Any idea if rooting the phone could allow mass storage mode? i still have ave a years warrenty but if they can't fix the sound issues I will probably want to root it

i believe Sony phones are one of the best for developer tools as is the nexus. I have also read I could boot a custom image from SD card like a PC.

Perhaps if you head over to XDA you might find something. I didn't.
