Do you get a error message when you try to take a screenshot? Note that some apps don't allow that you take a screenshot while they are active. For example most bank apps don't allow this.
You can test if this behavior is caused by one of your downloaded apps by rebooting your device to safe mode as these will be temporarily disabled in this mode.
