Can't connect DVD recorder to soundbar

Hi
I've a Sony RDR-GX 120 DVD recorder. I've just bought a Yamaha YAS 101 soundbar which I've managed to connect to my Sony Bravia TV by running a digital optical cable from the soundbar to a Humax set top box. I can't connect the DVD recorder to the soundbar however as there are only RCA slots on the DVD recorder. Anyone?

Hi there

Why not connect the DVD Recorder to the TV, and then output the sound via the TV to the soundbar?

Cheers

That's my problem. My TV is an older Sony Bravia and the soundbar has limited slots that don't include HDMI or Scart.

What model TV do you have?  Im just trying to get an understanding of how its connected at the moment.

EDIT: Should work like this

  • TV > Optical > Soundbar
  • Humax > X Cable > TV
  • DVD Recorder > X Cable > TV

It's a Sony KDL 40W5500.

Hi there

This is how I would connect it up.

  1. Connect TV (Optical Out) to Soundbar (Optical IN)
  2. Connect DVD Recorder (RCA OUT)  to TV on RCA IN (or SCART)
  3. Connect Humax (HDMI OUT preferred) to TV HDMI IN

See Picture below:

In the TV Settings (page 38 of the manual : HERE)

  • Set Speakers to "Audio System"
  • Set Optical Out to "Auto"

Hope that helps

Cheers
