Hi,
I have my vaio for a while now but i'm still having problems with my webcam (build-in in screen). At first I though it was because of vista but now I don't know it anymore.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, when I start the Vaio camera capture utility I get an error : An attempt to initialize the camera failed. Please check if another software is using the camera.
While no other software is using it...
Does anyone have a solution for this problem??
thank in advance
PS. I've done all the updates available
Hi Steven88,
Have you installed the VAIO Camera Capture Utility update Version : 2.2.01.04100 from here , then downloaded and installed the Microsoft Camera Hotfix KB931812 (I've attached this file below)

You're welcome Steven88, let's hope the hotfix resolved the problem..

You're welcome Steven88..
Hi Thalamus, everyone
I'll restate my problem here with some more details, and hopefully I'll get my webcam working again with your help!
Skype says webcam in use by other software, whic is not possible.
- Sony Vaio model VGN-SZ3XP/C
- Current webcam (Vaio camera Utility) version is 1.0.00.12270.
- Double-cliking on VCUServe.exe under "c:/program files/sony/vaio camera utility" does not do anything -- nothing happens.
- Unable to find updates / new drivers / versions on support site.
Other details -
- OS: Windows XP Pro SP2
I don't know if this helps, but I recently changed my MS Office version from 2003 to 2007. Not sure if that's the reason for the webcam not working!
Thanks!
Hi ashwyn,
Is the camera shown as being installed correctly in Device Manager?
Expand 'Imaging Devices' - is the camera shown as installed?
