Hi,

Got a Vaio FE31H. I can connect to Internet by WLAN, but the problem is I CONSTANTLY GET DISCONNECTED every 10-15 minutes :S

Therefore it's difficult to chat via MSN Messenger, download files or doing money transactions.

I've got XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 2 and the latest Intel Driver.

Also tested my WLAN on three different routers, two D-Link, and now Belkin. I sit two meters away and the connection is excellent (according to the WLAN-symbol). Also tried to sit in another room but with the same result; disconnections.

What to do?? Help please!

//xphiler

Thx for your reply!

I have no digital phone, if you mean Skype. Ofcourse I've got a cellphone and I will turn it off for a while and see if the problem remains. However I do not think that's the problem.

And I forgot to tell you that my brother and sister using WLAN aswell. (The router should handle it and we are not always online at the same times).
But I'm the only one with a Vaio and got problems.

What do you mean with programs trying to connect to Internet? Why should that be a problem when I'm already online? Why would my WLAN drop its connection because a program wants online?

But sure I've got an anti virus programme, but that's not unusual... AVG Free Edition by the way.

And I'm always online on MSN, basically beacuse of MSN Messenger I have Internet
I see when offline when I'm constantly being logged out from MSN during my chat sessions. Annoying!

More ideas, anyone???

(Do not wish to send it from Sweden to France for 50 working days for repair... I don't trust it to really be repaired... 😞 and I can't be without my computer for that long).

Other applications such as Wireless Lan Starter(not this application in particular will cause the problem) but such an application connects you to the internet so this will disconnect your connection and try to connect you via that specific connection.... It might not be from your wifi try connection through ethernet see if it gets a stable connections........also try rebooting the modem and make sure you have the latest driver etc for the router installed

Unfortunately something like this is difficult to cure.

Try some of the following:

1. Try a different wireless channel on your router. You may have a neighbour or another piece of electrical equipment interfering with your signal.
2. In Device Manager, right-click on your wireless card and under Power Management (or Advanced - can't remember) change the setting from the default to "Performance is Max"
3. The 10 to 15 minute problem sounds like it may have something to do with DCHP renewal. Have you tried manually assigning a fixed IP address?
4. Make sure your router and Vaio are not close to any large metal objects.
