I need an Indian mains cable, not an adaptor.

Hi, everyone,

This is my first post, here.

Can anyone tell me where, in the U.K., I can find a Vaio mains cable (the detachable part with the "Cloverleaf" IEC C5 3-pin plug at one end and the mains plug at the other) with an Indian plug?

The laptop is for a relative in India and it would be easier and more elegant, when using the laptop, if it had a genuine or generic Indian laptop cable and plug, rather than, every time the laptop is plugged-in to the mains, using the British plug with a U.K./Indian adaptor. I can, of course, easily buy a new cable there, but I'd prefer the laptop to be used, straight out of the box, so to speak, instead of having to hunt-down a new one.

India uses the old British 3-pin round plug/socket, as does South Africa, as shown here:

You'd have thought this would be easy to find, given the large British Indian population, but I'm coming up blank.

No, the South African cable you've shown has the 2-pin plug (for the laptop) and I need the Indian/South African mains plug (as you've shown) but with the "Cloverleaf"/3-pin plug at the laptop end.

Personally i would just rewire it since the standards are almost identical. 16Amp fuse instead of a 13amp here in the UK.

You probably save you some money to since they probably charge more for the indian style as there is probably less demand.

Does the cable(3), that I have shown, not plug into the the AC adaptor (1) and then the cable(2)from the AC adaptor then plug into the Vaio as per the image.?

Hi,

I have a Vaio FE41S and everything is correct as far as using it in the U.K. The cable(3) plugs correctly into the adaptor(1) and the adaptor plugs correctly into the Vaio port(2).

The problem is the cable has a built-in U.K. mains plug (naturally, as I bought it in the U.K.) and I want an identical cable, with the "Cloverleaf"-style plug at one end (which plugs in to the adaptor(1)) but the Indian rounded-pin mains plug at the other.

The image you linked to in your earlier post does show the mains plug I'm looking for but the cable has the 2-pin plug at the other end. Maybe this would still work but it would look strange having a port for a 3-pin plug with a 2-pin plug inserted.

I can't understand why it's so difficult to find. After-all, the very cable I'm after must come supplied with all Vaios sold in India. I thought Sony would sell a variety of cables for when it's customers want to use their Vaios abroad. It's much neater than using a wall mains adaptor and would be a nice earner for them.

I wouldn't like to chance putting a 2 pin plug into a 3 pin port..

Are you using the smaller 6amp plug or the larger 16amp plug?

Well being either 5 or 6amps would be perfect for rewiring it. Because it is the same style of plug it makes it much easier to rewire (same wires to the same pins). You could simply plug it into a travel adapter like this.
