Spillage!

I spilled a glass of water on my Vaio. I feel sick.

It turns on but runs desperately slowly.

What do I do? Can I find out what's wrong with it? Can I fix it?

Please help. I'm distraught.

I'm not sure there is a right answer to this ..........

If it was me, and it was only water, I would: -

1. Turn it upside down to drain any water away from the main board (expensive part).
2. DO NOT turn it on and remove the battery to prevent an electrical short while wet.
3. Dry it out as quickly as possible with some sort of fan.
4. When dry try to boot on AC Power first and if that it OK insert the battery.

Usual problems are Keyboard malfunction or motherboard failure if you are unlucky.

Do you have Accidental Damage Cover on your Household Insurance Policy?

I spilt some water on the right side of my keyboard the other day not all the keys are working.........so should i call vaio for warranty....or shall i call household insurance, which can get me a new keyboard the fastest??..if i send it off to sony wil they delete everything on my HDD?

Hi a7med_360,

The choice on whether to contact Sony or your insurance company has to be yours but the post from Blencogo, See below, in your other thread may help you decide..

Sony will carry out the repair for you but a liquid spillage will not be covered by your warranty. If it is the keyboard only, Sony will want about £120 up front to cover collection, parts and labour. If the liquid has caused damage to your Motherboard, they will want around £470 up front.

This is why 2jags has suggested you claim on your household insurance if you have Accidental Damage Cover on your Contents.

Ok, I've just turned it back on and it seemed fine, but then I started getting messages about a power surge on the hub port, and complaints about an unknown USB device and the possibility of resetting the port (or something like that). I got scared and turned it off again. How do you think I should proceed?

I would remove all power (AC and Battery) and leave it somewhere airy overnight (or in a fan draught) to dry out completely. Don't turn it on until tomorrow as you are obviously still getting a short circuit.

Can't stress enough - don't use it until you are sure it has completely dried out - or you will do permanent, expensive, damage.

Then I guess you will need to either contact Sony or a local PC repairer in your area..
