Vaio Recovery

Hi,

I'm finding it hard to understand what creating recovery disks does.

I was hoping this would be a great way of taking a snapshot of my laptop (after going through installing everything) though this is either not the case or it is not working correctly.

Any ideas?

Hi Jon,

When you buy most computers these days, they do not come with a Windows disc anymore. The original system software is loaded onto your hard disc in a hidden partition.

If you need to reinstall your operating system and the originally installed software after a crash or a virus, you can do this from the Recovery Partition using the VAIO Recovery Utility.

By creating Recovery Discs, you are copying this recovery software from the hard disc to DVDs. This ensures you can recover your Vaio in the event of a Hard Disc faulure or if you want to replace your hard disc. The System Recovery DVD is bootable.

These Recovery discs only hold the software as it was when you bought your Vaio. The information is not updated - no matter what you do.

If you want to take a snapshot (mirror) of your system - to include all your setup details, present configuration, updates and data, you need something like Acronis True Image 11 .
