I just recently bought a new vaio, did the firmware update but not the software update, and had exactly the same problems as you. Then I realised the other software has to updated as well. According to the webiste you have to do it in this order Firmware update (which you've done), sonicstage update and finally the vaio music transfer update. I did all this and it's working fine now. I'm no expert (only had vaio 5 days), but if I can be of any further help just ask. Enjoy.
