I have a VGN-FZ31M with a factory fit blu-ray drive (Optiarc BC-5500A ATA). I have bought a couple of blu-ray movies, but the drive just won't detect them. Normal dvds work fine....

I have contacted VAIO support, they gave me two updates. The first was a firmware update that wouldn't install (wrong update for drive by the looks of it), the second was a software update (that didn't cure the problem).

Does anyone have an idea of what else to try? Uninstall/reinstall? I'm a bit hacked off about this, as the blu-ray drive was one of the reasons i got it (sadly out of warranty period now).

Thanks for any pointers,
Mark

I am not performing a system restore just to see if it might make the drive work.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? Or is the drive likely to be dead?

There are many problems due to the copy protection on Blurays.
Install Anydvdhd and see if it works, you have genuine discs so no worries there!
