Help with blu-ray drive

Can anyone help me with my blu-ray drive?

I have a VGN-AR61s, but the blu-ray drive only plays blu-ray discs intermittently, sometimes it detects them, sometimes not, says the drive is empty. I also cannot burn dvds/cds using the drive. I've tried the updates from the support site but so far, nothing. Rubbish, wouldn't have bothered buying it if I knew this would happen.....

Hi reb_dj and welcome.

Difficult to diagnose from a few lines but intermittent faults are usually hardware related.

If it only plays older BD Titles then perhaps your Blu-Ray player needs updating. Do you have WinDVD BD Update - 8.0.9.754 installed?

For writing discs do you have the Blu-ray Drive Firmware UJ-220B - 1.04080723 updated?

If you have both of these correctly installed try opening All Programs -> WinDVD BD first and then putting the disc into the drive.

If all these fail you may need to repair or replace the drive.
