CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!

I started a thread a couple of months ago but with no luck.

My AR21S won't output to my TV screen via HDMI.

Every time I select the secondary display via Nvidia control panel or FN F7 the laptop screen will go blank but won't actually output anything to the TV. It stays blank.

I have a Dell laptop also and it outputs no problem.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Are you running Vista or XP?

Has it ever worked in the past? I seem to recall there was a HDMI update which was needed for HDMI 1.3 connection but can't find it. Your HDMI is version 1.1 on the AR21S, what version is your TV?

I'm running Vista.

I'm trying to connect to a Samsung series 6 LCD TV. Not sure what HDMI version it is though.

Never tried it in the past so I don't know if it was working from the beginning.

How do I get this HDMI update then? Any other ideas?

Hi Grandmaster Alpha,

As you've not told us your Samsung model I have took a wild guess and checked the user manual of a LE55B650...

2 HDMI IN 1, 2, 3(DVI), 4 / DVI AUDIO IN
Connects to the HDMI jack of a device with an HDMI output.
No sound connection is needed for an HDMI to HDMI connection.
What is HDMI?
HDMI(High-Definition Multimedia Interface), is an interface that enables the transmission of digital audio and video
signals using a single cable.
The difference between HDMI and DVI is that the HDMI device is smaller than DVI’s one.
The TV may not output sound and pictures may be displayed with abnormal colour when DVD / Blu-ray player / Cable Box
/ Satellite receiver (Set-Top Box) supporting HDMI versions older than 1.3 are connected.

As you can see, Blencogo was spot on, it states that the TV may not output sound on HDMI older than 1.3..

You may want to check your Samsung models user manual before proceeding further..

There is(was) a HDMI Software Update Version 071025a (not sure if the version number is still correct) that may resolve the issue of no audio when a PC is connected to an HDMI 1.3 equipped display..

However you will need to contact Sony Vaio support to request the update via Sony Vaio support,to find contact details for Sony Vaio support..

Open Vaio support, either by clicking Support at the top of this page or use the following link:Vaio support

Under Log-in option 2: Select your VAIO model, next to Select Model Category - Select your model from the drop down list, in your case VGN AR.

Then next to Select Model - select AR21S

Then click Log-In

Once logged select Get In Touch

I didn't mention anything about the sound, the picture/desktop won't show up in the first place. I've tried this on 3 other different TV's, all with the same result, black screen on the laptop, no output picture on the TV.

Two of the other TV's have 1.1 HDMI and it still doesn't work.

Any other ideas?

I am running XP, vista in my previous post was an error.
