Questions regarding VGF-APL1

I bought the VGF-APL1 last Saturday and I had to replace it on Sunday due to three white pixels. The new one is fine and I have to admit that I am really impressed!

I have though noticed that when a song is playing and I am scrolling through the menu, sometimes it stops playing the song for a sec or so and then it continues. Is this normal ? I tend to have bad luck when buying stuff and I really hope that there is no fault with it.

I have upgraded the firmware and I would appreciate if someone could let me know whether I can display the information such as bit rate, file type (e.g. ATRAC3 plus 132kbps) etc. Also, I have read that it is possible not to have gaps between the songs? Is this automatic or there is a selection somewhere ?

No. Take it back to the shop and exchange it for another one. If the next one does the same get an ipod.

Gapless playback is possible and automatic, but only for ATRAC files, not for MP3.

No. Take it back to the shop and exchange it for another one. If the next one does the same get an ipod.

Today it hasn't happend...well at least until now. I hope that it will stay that way....I really don't want to get it back as the other one may have another fault. I changed six PDAs until I got a good one....as I came across with faulty cradle, dead pixel, problem with the digitizer etc.

What about finding out what is the bit rate for songs? Is this possible?

I don't think I will get an iPod , even if I have to exchange this one with another one. I really like it and besides almost everyone (....and his dog) has an iPod....

Thanks DiabloVaio. What are all the improvements of the update? I have came across with only the key improvements, but not really in detail.

the bitrate info can be displayed only in sonic stage.vp has no such screen as far as i know!

Thanks for the reply. It would be nice, as it would enable the comparison of songs that have different bit rate etc. Anyway, perhaps in the future....

At least the gap when playing songs has stopped! Now I have to find some decent headphones. Any suggestions? One option is the Sennheiser PX200.

glad you got everything ok now!

i am not very fond of wierd technology or design headphones,i just use common phillips ones and am ok with it although my left ear has an adjustment problem and the headphone is never set right and always falls off after a few minutes:smileysad:

yeah i agree with diablo they are so comfortable, however they are very very fragile so be careful with them if you buy them. Be careful how you fold them. i've been through 3 pairs in about 4 years but i dont mind because they're that good. I think they used to be called groove earphones.

I have the MDR-EX70 (Fontopia). The sound is not excellent but good. Powerful bass and clearly heights, but no flat frequency. But I can say : Buy it, love it.:smileywink:

I have also an Sennheiser HD565 and a HD570. Both have a excellent sound. I think the PX200 also.

Can you tell me which are the ones?

Are they in-ear? Normally I find in-ear headphones uncomfortable, and this applies also for the ones that came with my VP.

these are the closest match : earphones i cant guarantee that they are the groove ones that i was talking about but they certainly look like them! notice how they say "Soft rubber earpiece minimises pressure on ears for greater wearing comfort" Thats what im talkin about. I understand that you find ear phones uncomfortable (so do i) but these are the exception- thats why i use these ones. If you want to look at the groove ones im talkin about i dont think sony make them anymore however amazon have some left in stock: Sony Groove. Actually you know what? all they've done is changed the damm name !!! hope that helps anyhow

You could have a look at the Shure e2cs, they're what I'm planning on getting when I have the money. Mercury are the cheapest place I've seen them, they're proper in ear monitors, like those used in the music industry (they are used in the music industry actually, these are just the commercial version). They form a seal which gives very good sound quality and lots of noise isolation, which can be good or bad depending on what you're doing. I can't vouch for them myself, but as I say I'm planning on getting a pair myself.
