Just upgraded to Premiere Elements 9, because it is supposed to handle more video files at once (so you can add together a number of different clips).

Instantly it says "upgrade your Nvidia driver, you are only using 188.8" (Vaio VPCz11, Windows 7 64-bit). Vaio Update says there is no update, and Nvidia says "go to your manufacturer".

What's the trick to get Sony to issue an update?

Incidentally I frequently get problems coming out of Sleep and the error message usually attributes this to the video driver, which means I have to reboot. A bit of a shame when I have a beautiful laptop, but the Mac users around me can crow "well I don't have to reboot when I come out of sleep"

Any ideas how to solve this problem guys? Will be eternally grateful

You can only use a Sony produced nVidia driver or you will lose the Speed/Stamina switching. This prevents you from getting a driver from any other source that may provide a bang up-to-date driver.

I think the VPCZ13Z comes with Version 190.24 and you can try installing that from here: -

http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/preinstalled/index.aspx?l=en_GB&m=VPCZ13Z9E_X

It was only released by Sony 2 days ago!!! It may install OK.

I waited, I tried, nothing works.

You can't even get rid of the hybrid switching, because the driver from Nautis doesn't support an external screen.

Oh and you can't just switch into Stamina mode, because that also doesn't support an external screen.

Does anyone know anyone at Sony who might start to take this seriously? I've had an inbox worth of emails telling me to upgrade from bundled Premiere Elements v8 to v9 (for another model of Sony Vaio - S series I think) so Sony can't pretend to be ignorant of this.

Perhaps the only answer is to start going to all sites that sell Sony Vaio Z11, Z12 and Z13 (they all have the same chipset and drivers) and leaving comments to the effect "don't buy this if you want to do video editing". I'd hate to be pushed to that position but Sony's response (on the phone, which is "tough, that's all we're going to do") and lack of interest in this section of the forum is getting really frustrating.
