Half my memory is missing... anyone know why?

I've had a PCG-FR315B for a few months now and decided to buy a memory upgrade - so I check my system to see what I already had. I was shocked to learn that windows system properties told me that I had only 128MB, whilst windows system information told me that I have 256. However I did check and it is a 256MB chip installed.

My system does run rather slowly - and it appears that only 128MB available.

I have removed, cleaned and replaced the memory unit (in the second port) and theres still only 128 available.

Any ideas?

Unfortunately, it seems that the Memory port has developed a fault.

If your unit is under the standard or extended warranty, then you can try ringing or emailing Sony (details can be found HERE).

If it is not under warranty, then you could try a new motherboard - they are not all that expensive or try contacting VAIO-Village who specialise in DIY repairs.

Sorry but this problem has been solved in the Notebooks forum, the problem was shared graphics.

Yes - the solution is either to install more system memory or reduce the shared memory amount.

Of course! AGP cards reserve up to 128MB as an apeture! I forgot about that. [:">] At least the answer is simple. My BIOS does allow adjustment but I will leave WELL ALONE - meddling will only cause trouble.
