Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a new Vaio C-Series and have three choices of disc player.

The description is a little confusing though

Option 1 - straight forward DVD re-writer

Option 3 - straight forward Blu-ray re-writer

Now my question, Option 2 - Blu-ray/DVD player

Plays Blu-ray Disc(TM) (BD-R/-RE/-ROM/ DVD±RW/±R DL/RAM)

Somewhere in all the garb I found it saying there is was drive that will play blu-rays AND WRITE cd/dvds

Can someone please confirm if this is that drive

Option 3 is the one that will enable you to burn data on bluray discs

You can double check this by looking at the cost of option 3 - it should be more expensive than the other two

Yes and no

Option 3 is another £140 over the standard DVD re-writer - all singing, all dancing

but will option 2 only read dvds or can it also write?

No it wont

The spec doesnt say "RW", it only says BD - R/RE/RO

The "RW" (read write) in the spec relates to the DVD drive and not the bluray drive

And this is further confirmed by the higher price so Option 3 is definitely the one you require
