Hi Charlie,

Have a look in your BIOS. The Speaker Volume can be changed there. Tap F2 repeatedly when booting - when you see the first Vaio splash screen. This should take you into the BIOS Setup screen - go to the Advanced Tab and you can change the Speaker Volume to 8/8 - I think it is set to 4/8 by default.

Another solution is to use VideoLan VLC Player - it's free, plays absolutely anything AND has a Volume Enhancement (use Full Base!!!).

Or .... If you have Sonic Stage Audio Filter, you can pull up Sony Oxford Inflator and push the sliders all the way up to just below the clipping point.

Hopefully one of these will work for you - if not, it's an external speakers job!!

I find the sound levels of my Sz3XWP are very low. I suspect that it's not a functon of speaker capability, but that Sony have programmed a bunch of sound processing software onto the machine.

I remember uninstalling a few things on my last Vaio which improved the volume by 30-50%.

Can you help with this? any ideas what might be keeping the volume down? both the volume for the speakers and the volume fo rheadphones ( I find that running two headphones from the plug is impossble with a splitter as so little power is output.

Thank you so much for your help
Charlie

Hi Charlie,

Yeah I've noticed this too, in PowerDVD I use the boost, or I connect my SoundSticks II to the machine while at home.

It's mainly to do with laws in France that say music shouldn't be over xdB
