is it possible to format the Vaio Desktop VGC - RA104 without the sony core disc (since i lost the disc...) and re-install on it a new version of windows xp?

and about driver, can i download the newer version from the site even if i don't have the "sony core" programm ? like "Vaio System Information" and "Vaio update" ?

Hi Ther0,

If you format you RA104 and install your own copy of windows XP, you will not be able to download and install the originally installed applications, but you are able to download the pre-installed drivers and utilities from HERE

Also you can if you wish contact Vaio link to purchase a new set of recovery disc's for your RA104..

I don't think you'll have many problems with your initial ideas, you'll just not have Sony's software. As the machine doesn't really use much specialist hardware you should be able to use it, the only problems might arise with the TV card.

I've asked since i know that in laptop is it needed the disc to format. (But maybe i'm wrong ^^")

By the way i will call the sony support italy to know more about the Recovery Disc.
