Take this up with Sony support, and kick up a real fuss if they shrug you off with 'sorry we can't fix it'. That is just unacceptable. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe British law at least would mean that since you have a new product not in fully working condition, you are entirely entitled to have it exchanged for a working one.

thats right... hibernation plays a major role on a notebook... on a desktop it wouldn't matter that much.... but on a notebook it plays a big role in the way that you are able to use your notebook....

you better make big fus at sony's support... if the sony support does not respond, then open up the problem to a computer or consumer magazin.

Joe

Ah...hold the phone. I just took a quick look at the solution you quoted and I think we may be kicking up a fuss a little hastily.

Solution 20259

Description:

I get the following error message when I put my VAIO in suspend mode: The computer cannot go into system hibernation because a driver is preventing it.

Solution:

This is a known issue on the PCG-C1VE VAIO models with English operating systems. There is no solution available as yet.

Firstly, I can't help but notice that the problem in the solution is a known issue on a different model. Even if they are very similar, it may well be that it is not unfixable on yours. Secondly, it isn't necessarily a hardware problem on the computer itself, and could well be a suspect driver you have installed. Since I don't know which driver is causing the problem, and i expect you don't either, give Sony a call and see if they can help you out. If not, they will at the very least tell you which driver causes the problem, in which case come back to the forum and give the clever people here you're exact problem, specifications and software details and someone may well be able to help you out, as there are alternatives/driver modifications which Sony probably will not suggest., but which may well work.
This could be a little more tricky, as no doubt Sony will blame the driver manufacturer, and vice versa, so insisting on a replacement could be difficult. Don't start beating your chest just yet, see what they suggest, and if you can then please come back and post how you get on, i'll be interested to know.

Oops sorry, I should add that first go through your driver settings and see if they allow you to turn Power Saving on or off. Many devices, such as Network cards, allow you to have them on constantly, so that they don't get cut off when the laptop goes into power saving mode. If a device is set to 'Always On' or 'Constantly Awake' or something similar, you could fix the problem by changing to a power-saving mode. 'Wake-On' setting would also work.
