Wireless G is actually Wireless b?

Hello
I have a Vaio PCG-GRT915M with an intergrated WiFi Lan card, denominated as LAN-Express IEEE802.11g mini-PCI card. When I try to connect to my wife's Toshiba Satelite A50-101 which also has a Wireless G card made by Intel, I only get 11 Mbps. Is this normal?
I have the latest drives installed.

Is this a problem with the ad-hoc stucture or is this a problem with my Vaio. Any feedback is greatly appreciated

No, it is not normal. Check the device settings to ensure that they are both set to connect using the 'g' specification. I don't have the same models as you so I can't give you detailed instructions.

I found out that this is normal. WiFi cards can work at higher speeds (54Mbps) but when in adhoc mode the drop down to slower speeds (11Mbps) for compatibility issues

If anyone has an ad-hoc network that runs at 54Mbps please give me some input on this.
I found a way to switch permenantly to 54Mbps by changing a registry key on the Vaio but the connection now drops from my othe laptop.
