hi people....

the LINUX ON A VAIO hope is getting stronger an stronger.... according to some institutions on location... LINUX is getting more prefferences over here in germany, than microsoft would approve...

and if SONY ignores the LINUX factor... even on already sold notebooks, it will suffer "burned offerings".... says a major BANK over here in germany!!!

isn't that right SONY...

I've got Fedora Core 2 installed on my fr415m

only 3d drivers and wireless networking drivers aren't working.
3d is Fedora's fault, wireless is driver fault.

I don't believe that Sony have a coherent strategy about Windows and Win32 applications on Vaio so I don't expect them to deliver on Linux.

As I tried to allude on my "Vaio vs iMac" post last night the value of a PC isn't in the hardware, it isn't in the Operating System it's running, it's in the application software that you can actually do something with.

Linux is getting some attention in the business IT space by taking licences away from Microsoft but, hey, I'd like to think that someone buying a Vaio has more on their mind than writing a Word doc, doing sums in Excel or creating vacuous, pretty pictures in PowerPoint (or OpenOffice equivalents).

It's my believe (Mr Opinionated) that Microsoft is feature enhancing Windows and Office out of a market where a basic level of functionality will suffice, hence, the Munich and Bergen deals. But they represent small beer (Munich, beer, ha-ha) in the big picture..

Believe me, I dislike the Microsoft attitude and mediocrity of product as much, if not more, than most but Linux in the real Vaio multimedia space is still very much of a "some assembly required" game.

like any companies strategy... make as much money with as little as possible, and if a company is to onesided they will suffer in the long-run

Yes the OS... but I should be able to decide which OS i am running... not SONY... SONY will gonna have to ajust to that in the future

Linux will come, and Gates knows that... why do thing he is offering a cheaper stripped down version of Windows in Malasia and Thailand... because there Linux is very well favorized. Video and Audio Integrated Operation will be Simplified on the Linux environment as well sooner or later.
