Help! Hardware mailfunction error! GRT896HP

When I pick up my vaio grt896hp notebook when it's on I get a blue screen with the following message:

HARDWARE MAILFUNCTION
CALL YOUR HARDWARE VENDOR FOR SUPPORT
NMI: PARITY CHECK/MEMORY/PARITY ERROR
***THE SYSTEM HAS HALTED****

And yes, the system has halted.

Another problem which I have is that my screen goes on and off when I move it up or down. Does one or both of the above problems sounds familiar to anyone of you vaio-users?

Sounds like you need to resit your memory, take it out and put it back in.

Yes, theres a little trap door on the bottom of the notebook.... in there should be the RAM.

I'd earth yourself At the start of this operation , Staic is a bad thing at this point .

Vitally important - unplug the notebook and remove the battery before removing and reseating the memory chips.

I've replaced memory and forgotten to remove the battery before - the notebooks survived the operation OK.

I read the remove-the-battery-tip after I did the job unfortunately , but I didn't really put out and in the RAM. I just pushed it and squeezed it a bit but with a good result It doesn't occur anymore! Remains the other problem of the flickering screen when I push it back- or forward...any help on that? I want to thank everyone who helped me thusfar.

Now your screen probably needs it's connection checked, not sure how to open that model though.....
