battery inside or not

Hello and sorry for my bad english.......

the vaio that i bought is my first notebook and i will use it the most as desktop, so my question, concerning the battery, is it better to let it inside while the computer is connected to electricity or is it better just to put the battery inside as i use it as a mobile computer ?
for the battery life i mean

Your English is very good (better than most!).

Concerning your question, I personally leave mine in all the time, and use the system on the mains. At the end of each week I run the system on the battery until Windows auto-hibernates. The advantage is that if the power fails and your system is on, then the system will run on the fully charged battery giving you time to save your work.

This is something I nearly asked myself.
Is it really a good thing leaving the Li Ion battery in the system 100% of the time?

i think that it is not good to let the battery inside because when the 100% is reached the system continue with a "slow charging" but what i think is maybe not right !!!!

Yep - what I thought. Mine shows 0% wear statistics...

Probably best to use either/or (either battery or mains). Sony don't appear to have any advice on VAIO-Link either.

I may ring Sony and ask them...

Shaun answered (seemed nice), took a while to disseminate my details (it must match those given at the time of registration - and have your serial number handy!) Gotta hate those automated systems!

Sony's answer: LEAVE IT INSIDE! :smileygrin:

According to them it will not harm the computer or the battery - MobileMeter reported a 0.06W charge on the PCGA-BP2NX battery at 100% charge. I said to him that I regularly disconnect AC power from the system at the end of each week and allow the battery to discharge to 10% (Windows will hibernate at this point on my system - a PCG-K115B).

Hope this has answered your question guys! BTW: If it is left inside as Sony recommend, power failures does not mean lost data!

I would have to agree with Sony, leave the battery in the bay.

I have had my battery 2 years and no troubles yet (thank god)

Sometimes it is worth just ringing Sony, I couldn't find anything relevant on google at all... BTW Shaun said that they are going to make updates to VAIO-Link to have more comprehensive FAQ questions available.

Its pretty bad that I might as well make the most of a free service! At least they don't show you the door when the warranty does expire...

For calling Sony support outside the warranty period. They charge a flat rate of £12.50 per incident. Not very nice. Still some support is better than no support.

Makes me wonder if I should bother with VAIO-Plus warranty extension for 2 extra years - it costs £169.99 (inc.VAT) the last time I checked.

I'm going to get the warranty extension, not just cos of the outrageous fee I just heard about but in case something goes horribly wrong. It might perhaps be a bit more essential on laptops though cos it's tough to replace bits yourself.

Believe me James, I know people who have saved £50 using Kelkoo instead of buying direct from Sony.
