Not so. The fan must run to keep the chassis cool, and it is far better to have the fan run constantly than not at all, and for the heat to build up to dangerous levels.

In the power profile, to make the fan noise less audible, on the VAIO power management tab, select QUIET.
For better performance in general, but more audible fan noise, select PERFORMANCE mode instead, as this will help the CPU etc remain much cooler.

learned from another guy, who uses the same book, that his fan is almost NEVER running.
so the problem must be at the bios version or
a software setting.

Doubt it. Sounds like his notebook is in trouble! BIOS for instance does not normally have fan cooling options exposed - especially in the Phoenix NoteBIOS utility. It is a software setting in so much as I explained above, setting performance mode or quiet mode influences general audibility of the fan.

Hope this helps!

hi!
got a really big problem.
the cpu fan is running all the time.
as i installed the recovery-cd, the problem
wasn't solved.
i activated the right energy-profile, but the
problem existed further.
i also watched the cpu-usage curve in the
task-magager, but it's 0%. the temperature
is surly not too hight, since the notebook isn't
warm at all.
i learned from another guy, who uses the same
book, that his fan is almost NEVER running.
so the problem must be at the bios version or
a software setting.

thanks for your help.
