Modem probs..pcg f610

I have a PCG F610 and the modem is dying a slow death.
It makes all the usual noise but just keeps making the racket and never hooks up...... times out.
Is this easily replaced?...and if so, what do I put in it's place?
I put a new hard drive in so I am relitively handy

Are you sure it's actually your modem and not your connection?

yes.... My desk top hooks up fine, and if I plug a card modem into the laptop it works as well......

Getting an internal modem for the VAIO isn't going to be very easy though Dave

Maybe you should consider a PCMCIA Modem

yeah... I was worried that might be the case. I have the pcmcia, but was hoping to fix the one in the machine..... is it hard to get it out as well, or is that part not too bad?

If one of the Sony spart parts place has it (we need the linkmeister!) then I guess it's not that hard.
